EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Grand Valley State swim & dive team competed on the first day of the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships and had a successful start. The team brought seven divers, and five will continue on to the next couple of days of competition. Macy Polasek, Bradleigh Palmer, Olivia Kutsche, Emi Goto, and Matthew Blommel will compete for the Lakers on the board. After day 1, the women's swim and dive team are currently sitting in the third place spot, and the men's team is in seventh place.
The women's 800 freestyle relay touched the wall at 7:14.24 to take third place for the Lakers. Members of this relay include Lucy Hedley, Vittoria Proietti, Angelica Angilletta, and Katie O'Connell. They beat their own school record by 4.59 seconds. Hedley had the fastest split time with a 146.57 and broke the school record individually in the 200 free and the all-time GLIAC record.
The men's 800 freestyle relay team finished with a time of 6:26.42 to take seventh place for the Lakers. Members of this relay include Evan Scotto DiVetta, Matti Gaebler, Anton Rauch, and Thomas Ferguson. Ferguson had the fastest split time with a 1:35.21.
Events for Wednesday, March 11 include the 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 1000 freestyle, men's 1-meter dive, and the 200 medley relay.
