ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team is set to get their season underway this weekend, traveling out to Pennsylvania for two ranked matchups. They square off with #21 Seton Hill on Friday, then wrap up the weekend at seventh-ranked Slippery Rock.

Last season, the Lakers finished 16-4, falling in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. They were a perfect 8-0 in GLIAC play, then defeated Davenport and NMU in the conference tournament. GVSU is currently ranked 19
th in the country in the most recent IWLCA poll.
Seven All-GLIAC performers return for the Lakers, led by Goalkeeper of the Year
Sarah Krause. Despite splitting time in the cage, Krause totaled 88 saves on a .547 save percentage. In front of Krause, multiple key defenders return to anchor the Laker backline. All-GLIAC, All-Region, and All-American selection
Kylie Waeghe is back for her senior season, alongside two more All-GLIAC honorees
Quinn McElroy and
Karleigh Rothe. Also returning are juniors
Tatumn Nyen and
Lauren Volk, who both appeared in 17 games last season.
On the offensive side of the ball, seniors
Gracie Bancroft,
Jillian Bingman, and
Ella Boose will lead the way after all earning Second-Team All-GLIAC honors a season ago. All three totaled over 40 points, scoring at least 25 goals.
Kendra Swope will look to build off a strong freshman campaign, while six other multi-goal scorers will come back to Allendale as well.
Seton Hill has played two games thus far, losing to #14 East Stroudsburg 16-3, then rebounding to beat Shepherd 17-4. After a 13-6 record last year, the Griffins were selected second in the PSAC West preseason poll. Led by Sydney Marusko's nine goals, Seton Hill has three players with three or more goals this season. In the cage, Katelyn Patts has gotten majority of the time, saving 13 shots and posting a .394 save percentage. This will be the second ever meeting between GVSU and Seton Hill, with the Griffins taking the first one 13-9 back in 2017.
Rounding out the weekend will be a clash with undefeated Slippery Rock. The Rock have defeated Ashland and then number five West Chester to open the season last week. Paced by three attackers with five or more goals, SRU has scored 31 goals in their two games, while their defense has allowed 21. Sunday's game will mark the first ever meeting between GVSU and Slippery Rock.
