ALLENDALE, MICH. - The Grand Valley State women's wrestling program will join the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) as an associate member beginning in the 2025–26 academic year. The GLVC announced the news in a press release earlier today, July 10, 2025.

The Lakers will compete in the GLVC alongside the following institutions:

  • McKendree University

  • Quincy University

  • Upper Iowa University

  • William Jewell College

  • Davenport University

  • Northern Michigan University

Grand Valley State returns all wrestlers from last season and enters its second year under head coach Jake Short. In just one season, the Lakers have already produced two national champions and one national runner-up in their respective weight classes. The team also finished as regional runner-up and placed fourth overall at the national tournament.

"We are pleased to find a conference home for our women's wrestling program with the Great Lakes Valley Conference," said GVSU Director of Athletics Keri Becker. "We are honored by the invitation to join their league. This is a great opportunity to continue elevating the sport and to compete alongside a strong group of institutions."
