Lakers Make NCAA History With Seven All-Americans, Four Advance To Semifinals

CORALVILLE, Iowa. — History was made on the first day of the inaugural 2026 NCAA Women's Wrestling National Championship. Rayana Sahagun became the first NCAA All-American. The Grand Valley State women's wrestling team is currently sitting in fourth place(67.5) after Day 1, behind McKendree (94), Iowa (91.5), and North Central (73).

Below are the results from the first day of competition. Four Lakers have advanced to the semifinal matches for Day 2, while three will be competing for third place. In total, the Grand Valley State women's wrestling team has seven All-Americans, making them the first All-Americans in NCAA history.

103 pounds — Rayana Sahagun went 2-0 on day 1 and will compete in the semifinals.

110 pounds — Sage Mortimer went 2-0 on day 1 and will compete in the semifinals.

117 pounds — Kiely Tabaldo went 0-2.

124 pounds — Aspen Blasko went 2-1 on the first day of competition and will head into day two competing for third place.

138 pounds — Katie Lange went 2-0 on day 1 and will compete in the semifinals.

145 pounds — Margaret Buurma went 3-1 on the first day of competition and will head into day two competing for third place.

160 pounds — Noelle Gaffney went 3-1 on the first day of competition and will head into day two competing for third place.

207 pounds — Sabrina Nauss went 2-0 on day 1 and will compete in the semifinals.

  • Quarterfinals: #2 Sabrina Nauss pinned  #7J. Larson (SHU), Fall 1:35

Kiely Tabaldo, who competed in the 117 weight class for the Lakers, finished her season at the national championship with a career record of 29–11.
