ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State softball team is back in action for a GLIAC doubleheader on Wednesday (April 9) when they travel to Hammond, Indiana to face Purdue Northwest. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET.
GVSU is 16-20 on the season and 7-7 in the GLIAC. The Lakers split an away doubleheader on Friday against Wayne State before dropping both games of a doubleheader to Saginaw Valley State on Sunday.
Freshman
Madelynn Pope leads the Lakers with a .357 batting average with 37 hits and seven triples. Pope has also hit one home run, six doubles, and is second on the team with 19 runs batted in. Junior
Elizabeth Wesoloski is hitting .314 with 37 hits and a team leading 37 runs batted in. Sophomore
Faith Edwards has notched a .304 average with a team leading 24 runs scored and 10 stolen bases. Freshman
Grace Usher is hitting .300 with two home runs and eight doubles.
The GVSU pitching staff has tossed a 3.16 ERA as a team. Freshman
Karli Dorr has tossed a 2.67 ERA with 10 complete games and 90 strikeouts. Junior
Nevaeh Ingram has posted a 2.99 ERA with 13 complete games and 69 strikeouts.
Purdue Northwest is 8-25-1 on the season and sit in last place in the GLIAC standings with a 3-11 conference mark. The Pride are hitting .280 as a team led by Amanda DeBoer who is hitting .364 on the season. Olivia Hernandez is batting .353 with four home runs and 27 runs batted in.
The Pride pitching staff has tossed a 6.23 team ERA in the circle this season. Purdue Northwest have a rotation of four players that have made at least 11 appearances with six starts. Abbey Bond has tossed a 4.36 ERA in 12 appearances, while Rylan Gick leads Purdue Northwest with 57 strikeouts in 13 appearances with eight starts.
