ALLENDALE, MICH. – The regular season is coming to a close for the GVSU women's lacrosse team. The Lakers finish off the regular season on Sunday, traveling to Saginaw Valley for a matchup with the Cardinals.

With their win over Davenport last Friday, the Lakers clinched the 12
th GLIAC regular season title in program history. After trailing 3-2 at the end of the first quarter, the Lakers outscored the Panthers 13-1 over the next two quarters, leading to a 17-6 win.
Ashleigh Rothe totaled four goals and
Zoe Ziegler had six points to reach 100 in her career. Rothe was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week and
Elora Ferrie earned the Defensive Player of the Week nod. Ferrie caused three turnovers and picked up two groundballs, and helped hold the Panther offense to half their usual scoring output.
At 12-3, the Lakers were ranked 23
rd in this week's IWLCA poll. They also earned the four seed in the NCAA regional ranking, holding one of the six spots ahead of next week's Selection Show. The Laker defense has been strong once again this season, ranking seventh in the country in scoring defense, allowing 7.73 goals per game. They are also fourth in save percentage, with
Kaylyn Cater and
Sarah Krause combing for a .525 save percentage. In the draw circle, GVSU ranks 18
th nationally, winning 57.3% of their draw controls.
In the first meeting between the Lakers and Cardinals, GVSU won easily, 25-3. The Laker defense allowed just seven shots and caused eight turnovers. They won the draw control battle 23-7, with
Ella Boose getting 10 and
Ashleigh Rothe picking up seven. Four players scored hat tricks, led by Rothe's seven.
Zoe Ziegler scored five,
Gracie Bancroft had four goals, and Boose tallied three.
The Cardinals are a 0-11 on the year, heading into this weekend where they take on Davenport Friday and the Lakers on Sunday. SVSU has been outscored 229-38 this season, including 125-15 in GLIAC play. Mikaila Stone has faced 39 shots per game in the cage, posting a 33.9 save percentage and 113 total saves. Gabby Parker leads the offense with 18 goals and 19 points and Sarah Veale has a team-high 32 draw controls.
