The Lakers swept their two games last weekend, defeating Northern Michigan 11-4, then taking down Concordia-St. Paul 10-5. The two wins move the Lakers to 11-3 overall and they clinched a share of the conference title at 6-0 in league play. A win on Friday, or a CSP loss will give the Lakers the regular season title for the 12
th time in program history. The Lakers rank in the top 10 nationally in multiple statistical categories. They are third in save percentage at .528, helping them rank eighth in scoring defense, allowing just 7.86 goals a game.
In the first meeting between the Lakers and Panthers, GVSU came away with a 12-3 win. It was 4-2 Lakers at the half, then they pulled away with an 8-1 second half to get the victory. In the win, goalkeeper
Kaylyn Cater recorded the 200
th save of her career, posting four in the game.
Zoe Ziegler scored four times to lead the offense, with
Kendra Swope and
Gracie Bancroft each netting two goals each.
Davenport is coming off a weekend split, falling to CSP Friday, then defeating NMU on Sunday. They are now 7-6 overall and 2-4 in league play, entering in a tie for third in the league standings. Midfielder Theadora Krueger is the reigning GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week, following a week in which she tallied caused nine turnovers and picked up eight groundballs, adding two goals. She currently leads the Panthers with 29 groundballs and is second with 33 caused turnovers. On the offensive end, Blakley Malpass and Maddy Haynes each have over 30 goals, with Krueger also recording over 30 points. Two freshman split time in the cage, with both Zoe Cassell and Rachel Livak playing over 330 minutes this season. They have combined for a .423 save percentage on 90 saves, allowing 9.37 goals per game.
