The Lakers went 5-1 in the opening six games of the season, all on the road. Last weekend, they defeated Walsh 9-5 and Ashland 13-11. GVSU is the 16
th ranked team in this week's IWLCA poll, the third-highest ranked team in the region.
Elora Ferrie was named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week, posting five groundballs and caused one turnover in the two games.
Jillian Bingman led the offense with five goals and three assists, with
Gracie Bancroft and
Ashleigh Rothe both notching four goals.
The Saints of Maryville come to Allendale riding a six-game winning streak, losing their season opener to #1 Tampa, then not losing since. In that timeframe, they defeated two top 25 teams and are up to number five in the country. The Saints are outscoring their opponents 131-49, and their 18.71 goals a game ranks third in the nation. Five players have scored double-digit goals, with three over 20. Leading the scoring is Marissa Zeno with 25 goals and 14 assists. Gianna Guzek has played all but 60 minutes in the cage for the Saints, recording 46 saves on a .505 save percentage, having faced only 18 shots per game.
UIndy is also ranked in the top 10, despite their record being 4-4, the Greyhounds were voted ninth by the IWLCA. Their four losses have all come against teams currently ranked 11
th or higher in the polls, and they have defeated two ranked teams already this season. Olivia Bladon is the team's top scorer at 23 goals and 29 total points, with Sage Da Silva the only other Greyhound with double-digit goals, posting 15 this season. Ava Graham has been the main starter in net, notching a .481 save percentage on 64 total saves. UIndy is the second-best clearing team in the nation, converting on 92.8% of their clear attempts this season.
