ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State softball team is set to begin their GLIAC schedule this weekend when they travel to face Roosevelt and Parkside.
The Lakers will open conference play on Friday, March 21
st on the road at Roosevelt in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM ET. GVSU will then travel to face Parkside in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Saturday, March 22
nd in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM ET.
GVSU enter GLIAC play with a 9-13 overall record. The Lakers dropped both games of a doubleheader at Tiffin earlier this week. GVSU is hitting .256 as a team and has posted a 2.78 team ERA which ranks third in the GLIAC.
Freshman
Madelynn Pope leads GVSU with a .311 batting average on 19 hits, four triples, and two doubles. Pope has appeared and started in all 22 games. Junior
Elizabeth Wesoloski is hitting .294 with a team leading 20 hits and 17 runs batted in. Senior
Morgan Spicer leads the team with six doubles and four triples, hitting .288 on the season with 12 runs scored.
In the circle, freshman
Karli Dorr is second in the GLIAC with a 2.07 ERA in nine appearances with eight starts. Dorr leads GVSU with 50 strikeouts in 50.2 innings pitched. Junior
Nevaeh Ingram has posted a 2.43 ERA which ranks seventh in the GLIAC in 10 appearances with eight starts. Ingram has tossed seven complete games with a 4-4 record and 42 strikeouts.
Roosevelt enters conference play with a 6-12 overall record. Roosevelt went 6-4 in Florida during their spring break trip. They are hitting .249 as a team which ranks seventh in the GLIAC. Ella Dvoracek leads Roosevelt and ranks ninth in the GLIAC with a .386 batting average. Dvoracek has 20 hits with 18 runs scored and two home runs this season. Athena Pomele-Pen has notched a .293 average with 17 hits, four doubles, and 12 runs batted in. In the circle, Riley Czarnecki has posted a 2.79 ERA in 15 appearances with a perfect 6-0 record. Czarnecki has struck out 33 batters in 52.2 innings pitched.
Parkside enters their GLIAC schedule with a 9-9 record. The Rangers will open the weekend at Purdue Northwest before returning home to face GVSU. Parkside is hitting .255 as a team led by Rylee Baetz who is hitting .333 on the season with 20 hits and 12 runs scored. Toni Rodriguez has batted .320 with 16 hits and a team leading 14 runs batted in. The Rangers have split time between Olivia Masnica and Ellie Curtis. Masnica has made nine appearances with seven starts posting a 2.45 ERA and 4-3 record with 20 strikeouts. Curtis has made seven starts in seven appearances with a 2.76 ERA and 3-2 record with a team leading 27 strikeouts.
