ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's lacrosse teams continues their time on the road to open the season, traveling to Ohio this weekend. The Lakers will play Walsh on Friday afternoon and then take on Ashland on Saturday afternoon.

The Lakers went 1-1 on their Spring Break trip out to Colorado, defeating Colorado Mesa 14-7, then falling to Regis 12-5. In the victory over the Mavericks, Ashleigh Rothe tallied four goals and two assists, with Gracie Bancroft notching a hat trick. Ella Boose and Jillian Bingman each scored twice. Kaylyn Cater saved four shots to pick up the win. On Sunday, after a tight first half, the Rangers used a big second half to pull away. Zoe Ziegler posted a hat trick, with Cater and Sarah Krause each made seven saves in the cage.
Walsh is 2-5 to begin the season, defeating Charleston and Daemen for their lone victories. Their defense has allowed 94 goals thus far, over 13 per game, and their offense is producing just over nine a contest. Katie Coomes and Rachel Black lead the offense with 17 and 16 goals respectively. Three other Cavaliers have chipped in with eight goals each. In the cage, Allison O'Hanian has gotten majority of the minutes, posting 40 saves and a .377 save percentage. In last season's matchup between the Cavaliers and the Lakers, GVSU came away with an 11-3 victory. Cater recorded six stops for the win in the net.
To close out the weekend, the Lakers will take on the Eagles of Ashland. 3-3 to begin 2025, the Eagles have beaten Quincy, Colorado State Pueblo, and Daemen. The Eagles have outscored their opponents 86-76 in their six games and are dominating draw controls, 112-69. Four Ashland players have hit double-digit goals so far, including Rachel Crumbacher and Tori Wanat, who also both have over 40 draw controls. Annie Duncan has started all four games as the goalkeeper, notching 42 saves and a .378 save percentage. The Lakers also beat Ashland last season, winning 16-3 in the home opener. Rothe had three goals and three groundballs and the Laker defense allowed only 10 shots from the Eagles.
