The Lakers defeated IUP in their season opener this past Sunday, winning 13-9. After leading by two at the half, IUP came back and tied the game at eight heading to the fourth. GVSU outscored the Crimson Hawks 5-1 over the final 15 minutes to secure the victory.
Ashleigh Rothe scored six goals to lead the way and earn GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Ella Boose added two more goals, and five Lakers scored once. The Lakers split time in the cage, with
Kaylyn Cater and
Sarah Krause both recording six saves. Six Lakers recorded two or more groundballs, and they caused nine turnovers. This will be the first time in program history that the Lakers and Hawks will meet up.
Quincy has started the season 2-1, defeating Davenport and Thomas More, and falling to Ashland. They have scored 47 goals this season and allowed 41 to opponents. Amelia Ham leads the team with 24 points (14 goals, 10 assists), and Anni Moran has a team-high 17 goals. In net, Madison Whiting Wagner has made 33 saves, posting a .446 save percentage and the Hawk defense has caused 21 turnovers and picked up 57 groundballs. Their draw control unit has totaled 51 draws, with three Hawks tallying 12 or more.
