Lakers Fall to Findlay in Season Opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BRIGHTON, Mich. – The Grand Valley State softball team in a doubleheader against Findlay to begin the 2025 season. The Lakers dropped game one 6-1 and lost 8-2 in game two. 
 
In game one, Findlay opened the scoring with a four-run third inning off a pair of two-run home runs. The Oilers would add two runs in the sixth. GVSU would score their lone run in the bottom of the fourth off an RBI by Faith Edwards.
 
Eliana Eiland and Elizabeth Wesoloski each notched a hit and had a walk. Morgan Spicer and Kylie Sinal hit a double. Nevaeh Ingram got the start in the circle and suffered the loss after tossing all seven innings while striking out three batters.
 
In game two, Findlay jumped out to a quick lead with three runs in the first inning. The Oilers would add three more runs in the second to take a 6-0 lead. GVSU would get on the board in the bottom half of the second off a Findlay error. The Oilers would add two runs in the fourth inning to make it 8-1. GVSU would add one run in the fifth off a Madelynn Pope RBI sacrifice fly.
 
Morgan Spicer hit a triple and walked. Kylie Sinal went 1-1 with two walks and Faith Edwards hit a double and scored a run. Christine Duch got the start in game two and suffered the loss after tossing three innings allowing three earned runs with four strikeouts. Karli Dorr pitched four innings of relief allowing no earned runs with two strikeouts. 
 
The Lakers will be back on the diamond next weekend when they travel to Rosemont, Illinois for the Lewis Dome Tournament. GVSU will play six games in three days beginning on Thursday, February 20th when they open the tournament against Minnesota Duluth at 4:30 PM.
