GVSU Men’s, Women’s Teams Secure Wins After Day 3 at Calvin Winter Invite

ALLENDALE, Mich. — The men's and women's teams wrapped up the final day of the Calvin Winter Invite, with both sides taking home first place. Two school records were broken by the Lakers.

On the women's side, GVSU took first place with a score of 2152.5, followed by Northern Michigan (1630.5), Findlay (1307.5), Calvin (1105.5), Indiana Wesleyan (594) and Lawrence (156).

The women's 400 freestyle relay finished with a 3:21.34 to take first place. This is a new school record.  Relay members included Rottier, Angilletta, Hedley, and Proietti.

In the 1650, Linda Frick took second for the Lakers with a time of 17:13.30. Ellison Wolford placed fifth.

In the 200 back, Vittoria Proietti touched the wall at 1:57.30 to place first for the Lakers, setting a new school record. Alice Persson finished second in 2:01.72.Lucy Hedley won the 100 free with a time of 50.04.

In the 200 breaststroke, Sara Alvarez placed second in 2:18.23, and Elliott McAlpine took third in 2:18.27. In the 200 fly, Gaia Tomaselli placed second with a time of 2:07.46, and Yunona Freese finished fourth in 2:10.26.

On the diving side, Emi Goto took first place in the 3-meter with a score of 437.65, and Macy Polasek finished third. Bella Larson also earned an NCAA nationals cut.

On the men's side, the Lakers won with 2247 points, followed by Calvin (1143), Northern Michigan (1305), Findlay (1266), Indiana Wesleyan (470.5) and Lawrence (179.5).

In the 400 freestyle relay, Mahmoud A., Thomas Ferguson, Carsyn Christoffel, and Evan Scotto DIvetta  finished in 2:54.26 to take first place for the Lakers. 

Berk Boz placed second in the 1650 free with a time of 15:22.22, and Raul Briceno finished fifth. In the 200 back, Anton Rauch took second in 1:46.75, and Moritz Hesse placed fifth in 1:50.88.

Evan Scotto DiVetta won the 100 free in 43.49, while Thomas Ferguson finished third in 43.94. Jan Matejczuk claimed first place in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:59.72. In the 200 fly, Matti Gaebler placed second in 1:47.55.

On the boards, Carter Wood took second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 471.15, and Max Schwickert placed third with 460.00. Schwickert achieved his national cut earlier in the morning during prelims. Austin Clise also earned a national cut for the Lakers.
