th annual Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Josh Kenny (174) and
Carter Blough (285) claimed Midwest Classic championships, as the Lakers were one of two programs that crowned multiple champions.
Kenny tallied a second period take down and a third period escape for the victory over Sevi Garza of Ashland in the finale. He opened day two with a 1-0 quarterfinal win over Clinton Morrisette of King, picking up a third period escape. He added a semifinal win over Hunter Jump from Central Oklahoma with two first period take downs and a third period escape. Kenny went 5-0 with a tech fall, a major decision, wins over three ranked foes, and outscored his opponents 42-3.
Blough dominated #1 ranked Isaiah Vance of Pitts-Johnstown with a 10-0 major decision in the title match. He scored a take down and added two back points in the final 10 seconds of the first period. He recorded four back points in the third period and added a point for riding time. Blough picked up a 2-0 victory over Judson Rowland of Central Oklahoma in the quarterfinals and notched an 11-0 major over #5 Cale Gray of Indianapolis in the semifinals. Blough went 6-0 with four major decisions, a tech fall, wins over 3 ranked foes, and outscored his opponents 60-2.
Grand Valley State will host the University of Olivet Thursday, December 18 at 7 p.m. in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. Lowell will wrestle Bay City John Glenn beginning at 5 p.m. prior to the GVSU dual.
