The Lakers are in the hunt for their 24th women's and 23rd men's team Midwest Region titles. Both teams have been unstoppable for decades, winning back-to-back (to-back-to-back…) titles since 2001 and 2002, respectively. Wins on both sides will continue the longest regional title streaks in the NCAA, regardless of division.

To no one's surprise, Grand Valley State heads into competition ranked first in the NCAA DII Midwest Region. The Laker ladies sit pretty at first in the region after posting a perfect score at October's GLIAC Cross Country Championships. They come in at number two in the national polls, receiving three first place votes (fpv) and 235 points, just behind Colorado School of Mines's 237 points and five fpv. The men's team leads No. 2 ranked Saginaw Valley State and No. 3 Lewis in the Midwest Region. Their outing at the conference championships (recording a near-perfect 17 points) was enough for the men to hold their rank at number four in the nation with 219 points behind Wingate (237, 6 fpv), Adams State (233, 2 fpv) and Colorado School of Mines (223).

Grand Valley State's field consists of seven women, seven men and three alternates apiece. Reigning NCAA DII Midwest Region and National Champion Lauren Kiley is predicted to lead the women after recently securing the conference victory in 20:18.2. Abigail VanderKooi and Allie Arnsman are expected to cross the finish line in close proximity to their teammate, both recorded personal-best 6k finishes (20:29.1 and 20:31.4, respectively) at the conference championships to secure a two-three finish. Maggie O'Malley (20:52.2), Natalie Mello (20:55.6), Karen Kiratu (20:57.3), Landyn Howell (21:03.2), Cara Newman (21:08.0), Annika Sandman (21:09.8) and Maria Widmann (21:24.1) are also a part of the travel crew.

Koby Fraaza, the 2025 GLIAC Men's Cross Country Champion, will look to find another podium spot at the Midwest Region Championships. The redshirt-senior finished third at last year's regional championships, posting a 10k time of 30:54.9. Other Lakers in pursuit of a podium spot include GLIAC Runner-Up Conor Somers and third place finisher Báhozhóni Church, both of whom redshirted the 2024 cross country season. Owen Westerkamp, Noah Selvaraj, Nathan Riddering, Sebastian Ramirez, Brock Wooderson, Bentley Alderson and Gabriel Connelly occupy the remaining seven slots of GVSU's Midwest Region Men's Championship squad.

The first race of the 2025 NCAA DII Midwest Region Cross Country Championships begins at 10 a.m. CST with the women's 6k. The region's top men follow at 11:15 a.m. CST in a 10k race. Though the championships will not be livestreamed or televised, fans can follow live results courtesy of Wisconsin Running Systems here.
