Both squads enter national competition ranked in the top five of the NCAA DII National Coaches' Polls. Following their 24th Midwest Region title, Grand Valley State's women come in at number one in the nation, collecting 239 points and seven first place votes from the nation's coaches. The men find fourth in the poll with 216 points behind Wingate (236), Adams State (231) and Colorado School of Mines (229).

Ten Laker ladies, seven racers and three alternates, made the trip to the National Championships. Senior Lauren Kiley leads the team, both in titles and in speed. Kiley went undefeated during the 2024 cross country season, collecting Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and Midwest Region titles on the way to becoming the 2024 NCAA DII Cross Country women's individual champion, crossing the 6k finish line at 20:28.5. After successfully defending her conference and regional titles, the reigning national champion will look to successfully complete another undefeated postseason this weekend.

Six other women will race alongside Kiley in Laker uniform. Among the bunch will likely be Abigail VanderKooi (20:45.2) and Allie Arnsman (20:48.3), who finished third and fourth at the Regional Championships, respectively; Maggie O'Malley (21:12.4) and Natalie Mello (21:13.6) have the potential to compete, as well, as they secured eighth and ninth place finishes in Kenosha. Landyn Howell (21:23.30) and Karen Kiratu (21:23.36) rounded out the Laker lineup at the Regional Championships, notching 12th and 13th place finishes.

Although they did not see the course in Kenosha, three others are ready to run for Grand Valley State: Cara Newman, Annika Sandman and Maria Widmann. The trio did, however, race at the GLIAC Cross Country Championships. Newman finished first of the three and 11th overall, crossing the finish line at 21:08.0. Sandman finished just behind her teammate with a 12th place finish at 21:09.8. Widmann rounded out the trio, finishing 17th at 21:39.3.

Seven men will take the field for GVSU, as well. Koby Fraaza has been the team's frontrunner this season. The redshirt-senior earned the individual title at the GLIAC Championships with an 8k finish at 23:45.0. Two weeks later, he earned bronze, crossing the 10k finish line at 30:26.5. Behind Fraaza at Regionals was Owen Westerkamp, who notched a 30:36.1 10k finish to snag fifth place. Conor Somers was the last Laker to find a spot in the top 10, crossing the finish line seventh at 30:37.3. Sebastian Ramirez (31:02.3), Brock Wooderson (31:07.3) and Nathan Riddering (31:22.2) put together a 14-15-19 finish in Kenosha. Though he did not race at Regionals, Báhozhóni Church will occupy a spot in the Laker's lineup. The redshirt-sophomore snagged bronze at the GLIAC Championships with an 8k finish at 24:01.1.

Bentley Alderson, Gabriel Connelly and Noah Selvaraj assume alternate roles this weekend. Alderson and Connelly wore Laker blue at the GLIAC Cross Country Championships, while Selvaraj represented GVSU at the Regional Championships. Connelly and Alderson finished ninth and 11th in the 8k championship at 24:34.7 and 24:44.4, respectively. In Kenosha, Selvaraj, a redshirt-freshman, recorded a 23rd place finish at 31:27.5 in his first-ever collegiate 10k.
