Four Lakers Earn GLIAC Major Awards; Ten Earn All-GLIAC Honors

ALLENDALE – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the women's soccer all-conference teams today (Nov. 13). Four Lakers earned major individual awards, and 10 players earned all-conference honors which is the most out of any school. Six Lakers were named to the GLIAC first team with three named to the second team and one earning honorable mention honors.  
 
Senior defender Kacy Lauer has been named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-GLIAC first team honors. Lauer becomes the 13th player in program history to earn the GLIAC defensive player of the year award. The senior has appeared and started in all 19 games this season and has been a key contributor to GVSU having 11 shutouts on the season which leads the GLIAC. Lauer has scored a career high six goals and dished out five assists for a career best 17 points this season from her primary outside defensive back position. She has scored two game-winning goals in the home wins against Michigan Tech and Davenport. In conference play, Lauer is tied for the team lead and leads all GLIAC defenders with 16 points and six goals. She is one of three Lakers to have logged over 1500 minutes this season and has appeared in all 90 minutes in nine games. Lauer earns her first major individual GLIAC award and is now a two-time All-GLIAC first team honoree and three-time All-GLIAC performer. 
 
Freshman goalkeeper Macie Hunter has been named the GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year and earned first team All-GLIAC honors. Hunter becomes the fourth player in program history to earn GLIAC goalkeeper of the year honors. The freshman has appeared in 16 games making 15 starts this season. Hunter leads the GLIAC with 15 wins, 10 shutouts, and a 0.33 goals-against average. She has posted a 15-1 record in goal with a GLIAC best five goals against and is second with a .839 save percentage. In conference play, Hunter has started in every game posting a 13-1 record with nine shutouts and a 0.37 goals-against average. Hunter has made 25 saves in conference play with a 0.833 save percentage that ranks at the top in the GLIAC.
 
Freshman forward Ivy Wilhelm has been named the GLIAC Freshman of the Year and earned All-GLIAC second team honors. Wilhelm is the 11th player in program history to earn the GLIAC freshman of the year award and first since the 2021 spring season. This season, Wilhelm ranks tied for fourth on the team with 15 points. She has scored five goals and five assists on the season and ranks tied for second on the team with three-game-winning goals. The freshman has appeared in all 19 games this season making two starts. In conference play, Wilhelm has notched four goals and four assists for 12 points with two game-winning goals. She scored the game-winning goal in the 3-0 home win vs Northern Michigan and the 2-1 road win at Ferris State. 
 
Head coach Katelyn Longino and the GVSU coaching staff have been named the GLIAC coaching staff of the year. Longino becomes the fifth different head coach in program history to earn GLIAC coach of the year honors and also the fourth coach to earn the award in their first year as head coach at GVSU. In her first season as head coach, Longino guided GVSU to the GLIAC regular season championship for the 18th time in program history and first since the 2022 season. GVSU went 16-2 in the regular season with a 13-1 conference mark. The 16 wins in the regular season marks the most wins in a regular season in program history since the 2021 season. The Lakers have posted 11 shutouts on the season with 10 in the regular season which ranks the best in the GLIAC. GVSU has allowed just nine goals all season and have scored 45 goals which both ranks number one in the GLIAC.
 
Forwards Sarah Fromm and Alli French earned All-GLIAC first team honors for the first time in their careers. Fromm leads the Lakers with nine goals, 21 points, and four game-winning goals. In conference play, Fromm is tied for the team lead with six goals and 16 points. She scored two game-winning goals against Parkside and Saginaw Valley State. French has appeared and started in all 19 games this season. She has scored five goals and dished out four assists for 14 points. French is tied for second on the team with three game-winning goals and leads the team with 50 shots and 27 shots on goal. In conference play, French has recorded four goals and four assists for 12 points. 
 
Midfielder Sonya Mehta and defender Acadia Murphy earned All-GLIAC first team honors. Mehta has appeared and started in 17 games this season scoring five goals and six assists for 16 points. She has scored one game-winning goal in the 2-0 road win against Roosevelt. Murphy has been a key factor in the Laker defense that ranks the best in the GLIAC allowing just nine goals this season with 11 shutouts. She has appeared and started in all 19 games this season and ranks second on the team in minutes played. Murphy has appeared in all 90 minutes in 15 games. She has scored one goal and dished out three assists for five points from her primary defensive back position.
 
Defender Mackenzie Ford and midfielder Cora Conley were named to the All-GLIAC second team. Ford has been a key piece to the Laker defense that has allowed just nine goals this season with 11 shutouts. The senior has had a career season scoring four goals and leading the team with seven assists for 15 points. Ford has scored two game-winning goals in a road win at Northern Michigan and home win against Roosevelt. This season, Ford leads the team logging over 1,600 minutes including 16 games where she played in all 90 minutes. Conley has appeared and started in all 19 games as a freshman. She scored her first collegiate goal in the GLIAC quarterfinal win over Roosevelt. This season, Conley has notched four points and has played over 1,200 minutes. Senior midfielder Sophia Morgan earned All-GLIAC honorable mention honors. Morgan leads GVSU with seven assists which is a career high. Morgan has appeared in all 19 games making nine starts and has logged over 1,000 minutes this season.
