Lakers Defeat Roosevelt 1-0 in GLIAC Quarterfinals

ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State women's soccer team opened up postseason play with a 1-0 shutout win over Roosevelt Tuesday (Nov. 11) evening in the GLIAC quarterfinals. The Lakers improve to 17-2 on the season and advance to the GLIAC semifinals.
 
GVSU dominated the possession and outshot Roosevelt 32-2 with 12-0 on target. The Lakers recorded 16 shots in the first half with five on frame and two that hit the post as the game was scoreless after the first 45 minutes. 
 
In the second half, GVSU got off 16 shots with seven on frame. The Lakers found the back of the net in the 73rd minute to take the 1-0 lead. Cora Conley notched her first collegiate goal with the assists from Kacy Lauer and Acadia Murphy. After a Laker corner kick, Alex Williams made a pass to Murphy who sent in a cross from the left side that went to Lauer who got it over to Conley for the shot that went past the goalkeeper and into the bottom right corner of the goal. 
 
Alli French led GVSU with four shots with three on target. Sarah Fromm recorded four shots with two on frame, while Vesna Dennison also got off four shots with one on target. Kendall Aikens had three shots with two on goal and Amanda Palmer also added three shots. Conley scored the game-winning goal off two shots in 88 minutes played. Lauer and Murphy picked up an assist and played all 90 minutes in the win. Macie Hunter picked up her 10th shutout of the season and 15th win.
 
With the win, GVSU will host the semifinal and championship match in the GLIAC tournament. The Lakers will face Northern Michigan in the semifinals on Friday, November 11th at 1:00 pm at the GVSU Soccer Field. Parkside will play Saginaw Valley State in the second semifinal match in Allendale at 4:00 pm after the conclusion of the Lakers match.
