ALLENDALE – The No. 5 Grand Valley State women's soccer team is back home for a pair of GLIAC games this weekend. The Lakers will host Davenport on Friday, October 31
st at 5:00 pm and Purdue Northwest on Sunday, November 2
nd at 1:00 pm for Senior Day.
GVSU is coming off two home wins last weekend to improve to 12-2 on the season and 9-1 in the GLIAC. The Lakers defeated Northern Michigan 3-0 and Michigan Tech 6-1. Junior
Sonya Mehta was named the GLIAC offensive player of the week after scoring two goals and dishing out two assists for six points in the win against Michigan Tech.
Sophomore forward
Sarah Fromm leads GVSU with 16 points scoring seven goals and dishing out two assists. Fromm has scored three game-winning goals. Freshman forward
Ivy Wilhelm notched two goals and one assist last weekend. Wilhelm on the season has scored five goals and five assists for 15 points with three game-winning goal. Mehta is up to five goals and four assists for 14 points on the season with one game-winning goal. Junior
Alli French is tied for second on the team with five goals and is tied for first on the team with three game-winning goals. Senior
Kacy Lauer scored one goal and two assists last weekend for four goals and two assists for 10 points overall on the season. Freshman goalkeeper
Macie Hunter picked up both wins, improving her record to 10-1 on the season with eight shutouts and 14 saves.
Davenport enters Friday's game with a 4-8-3 overall record and 4-6-1 GLIAC mark. This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season. The Panthers split last weekend's GLIAC games, defeating Purdue Northwest 2-0 before falling to Parkside 1-0. Davenport on the season have been outscored 20-12 by their opponents. Ella Chatfield leads the Panthers offensively with two goals and two assists for six points. Madelyn Schamanek has recorded five points off two goals and one assist.
Purdue Northwest is 5-7-2 on the season and 3-7-0 in the GLIAC. The Pride fell 2-0 at Davenport and 3-0 against Roosevelt last weekend. On the season, Purdue Northwest has been outscored by their opponents 19-11. Mia Davis leads the Pride with 13 points off six goals and one assist. Nayla Pena leads the Pride with two assists and is second on the team with four points. GVSU defeated Purdue Northwest 2-0 on the road in the first matchup between the two teams this season.
