MANKATO, Minn. – The No. 5 Grand Valley State women's soccer team fell 1-0 at No. 16 Minnesota State Sunday (Sept. 6) afternoon. The Lakers fall to 2-1-1 on the season, while the Mavericks improve to 3-0-0.
Minnesota State scored in the 41
st minute to take the 1-0 lead. GVSU outshot the Mavericks 26-11 including 13-5 in the second half and 12-4 in shots on goal but were unable to find the equalizer.
Kendall Aikens led all players with eight shots with three on target.
Sonya Mehta notched seven shots with five on frame.
Lina Rea added two shots on goal. Defenders
Acadia Murphy and
Ana Spaine played in all 90 minutes.
Macie Hunter got the start in goal and made three saves.
GVSU will begin conference play next weekend on the road against Northern Michigan on Friday, September 11
th at 3:00 PM and Michigan Tech on Sunday, September 13
th at 12:00 PM. Both games will be streamed live on FloCollege.
