MANKATO, Minn. – The No. 5 Grand Valley State women's soccer team travels to Mankato, Minnesota this weekend for a pair of games to close their non-conference schedule. The Lakers will face Bemidji State on Friday, September 4
th at 1:00 PM ET on the campus of Minnesota State. GVSU will then face #16 Minnesota State on Sunday, September 6
th at 4:00 PM ET.

GVSU kicked off the 2026 season last weekend with a 1-1 draw at No. 22 Ashland before defeating Cedarville 3-1 in the home opener. Junior defender
Vesna Dennison scored two goals in the win vs Cedarville including the game-winning goal. Freshman defender
Sarah Langley scored her first collegiate goal in the 1-1 draw at Ashland, while sophomore transfer
Ava Kozak notched her first career goal as a Laker in the win over Cedarville. Senior defender
Ana Spaine dished out two assists for her first career points as a Laker.
Macie Hunter got the start in goal in both games for GVSU making four saves.
This will be the second meeting between GVSU and Bemidji State in the two program's histories. The first meeting was back in 2019 also in Mankato, Minnesota where the Lakers defeated the Beavers 2-0. Bemidji State opened the 2026 season with a scoreless draw against Missouri Western State before defeating Northwest Missouri State 2-1. Rozlyn Buettner got the start in goal in both games making 11 saves including seven saves against Missouri Western State. Senior defender Madeline Davey scored the game-winning goal against Northwest Missouri State.
Minnesota State enters the weekend ranked #16 in the latest United Soccer Coaches national poll. GVSU owns a 7-4-4 all-time record against Minnesota State. The two programs faced each other last season in Allendale with Minnesota State earning a 1-0 win. Minnesota State is 1-0 on the season after defeating Central Oklahoma 2-1 in their season opener. Junior midfielder Meghan Przybilla scored the game-winning goal for the Mavericks while goalkeeper Lauren McAlpine stopped eight shots in the win.
