GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Grand Valley State's cross country teams claimed their 24th consecutive women's and 23rd straight men's title at this morning's 2025 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Cross Country Championships. The women won gold with a perfect team score of 15 points, the men posting 17 to claim a crown of their own.
Lauren Kiley and
Koby Fraaza claimed the individual crowns in their respective races.
RESULTS
The women's 15 points, a perfect score, marked the fourth perfect total in program history and fifth in GLIAC championship history. The feat was accomplished with a perfect one-through-six finish by the Laker ladies. After leading the entirety of the race, Kiley remained in front to secure back-to-back GLIAC Champion titles, crossing the finish line at 20:18.2. Next to cross the line was
Abigail VanderKooi, posting a personal-best 20:29.1 time to claim GLIAC Runner-Up honors.
Allie Arnsman (20:31.4),
Maggie O'Malley (20:52.2),
Natalie Mello (20:55.6) and
Karen Kiratu (20:57.3) finished in succession with personal-best times of their own.
Landyn Howell (21:03.2),
Cara Newman (21:08.0),
Annika Sandman (21:09.8) and
Megan Postma (21:13.1) were next to finish, crossing the finish line ninth, 11th, 12th and 13th respectively, all at personal-best 6k times.
Maria Widmann (21:39.3) and
Violet Hrabovsky (21:49.0) rounded out the lineup for the Lakers, finishing 17th and 20th.
The men's 17 points sealed the deal for Grand Valley State.
Koby Fraaza was the front runner for the men, crossing the finish line first at 23:45.00.
Conor Somers and Báhozhóni Church followed suit, filling up the podium with second and third place finishes at 24:01.00 and 24:01.1, respectively.
Sebastian Ramirez (24:15.90) and
Owen Westerkamp (24:20.8) were the next two to finish, becoming the fifth and sixth athletes to finish the course.
Nathan Riddering finished eighth at 24:33.3 just ahead of
Gabriel Connelly, who finished ninth at a personal-best 24:34.7.
Bentley Alderson (24:44.4),
Connor Nolan (24:46.8),
Kyler Dean (24:50.3),
Iain Forrest (24:54.8) and
Brock Wooderson (25:07.1) combined to record five top-20 finishes to round out the Lakers lineup.
Grand Valley not only swept the podiums, but cleared the awards, too. Kiley and Fraaza tag-teamed to snag Women's and Men's Runner of the Year, Mello and Ramirez were named Women's and Men's Freshmen of the Year for their top-10 finishes and the coaches were once again named Women's and Men's Coaching Staff of the Year.
A bye week welcomes Grand Valley State with open arms as they await the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Championships on Saturday, November 8. The women's 6k and men's 10k races, hosted by fellow GLIAC institution Wisconsin – Parkside, will take place in Kenosha, Wisconsin. More information will be available in the coming weeks.
