The Lakers head east in pursuit of their 24th consecutive women's and 23rd straight men's conference titles. The Laker ladies have won the team title every year since 2001, and the men have swept since 2002.
At last year's conference championships, hosted by Ferris State University, the women claimed first with 23 points from six top-nine and nine top-20 finishes. The men tallied a perfect score of 15 points with 11 men finishing in the top 20, seven of whom finished in the top 10. The score marked the second perfect 15 in Grand Valley State men's program history and third in conference history.
Both teams enter championship season ranked first in the conference and Midwest Region. The women fill the number two spot in the NCAA DII Cross Country National
Coaches' Poll, 13 spots above GLIAC opponent Northern Michigan. The men
rank fourth in the nation ahead of the Championships, only four spots above Saginaw Valley State's men who rank second in the Midwest Region.
Tomorrow's races will see 15 women and 15 men compete in Laker uniform. According to current
season-best finishes, GVSU's women fill 13 of the top 15 slots in the GLIAC. Leading the women is reigning National Champion
Lauren Kiley, who clocked a 20:44.8 season-best at the Spartan Invitational. Eight other Lakers occupy the GLIAC women's top 10.
The men's field has a similar lineup – eight of the top 10 and 11 of this season's top 15 times hail from Grand Valley State. Báhozhóni Church and
Koby Fraaza headline the list, both recording season-best 8k finishes at the Joe Piane Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame.
The 2025 GLIAC Cross Country Championships begin Saturday morning at 11 a.m. The women race first, taking on the 6k course at Calvin University's Gainey Athletic Facility. The men follow with the 8k championships at 11:45 a.m. Awards commence at 12:45 p.m. and will honor several athletes, teams and coaches.
