NASHVILLE – The Grand Valley State softball travels to Nashville, Tennessee to begin their NCAA Tournament run in the Midwest Regionals. The Lakers open the tournament against the three seed Ohio Dominican tomorrow (May 9) at 3:30 PM ET.
GVSU clinched their 19
th overall and 13
th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament dating back to 2011. The Lakers have a 68-43 overall record in the tournament and have made six trips to the College World Series including three over the last five seasons.
The Lakers enter NCAA postseason play with a 35-16 record. GVSU has won 12 of their last 15 games and are hitting .292 as a team while out scoring their opponents 238-109 on the season.
Hannah Hollister leads the Lakers with a .374 batting average, 61 hits, and 51 runs scored. Hollister broke the GVSU single season stolen base record with 40 this season in 42 attempts.
Kelsey Komorous has hit .363 this season with a team leading 55 RBI, 16 doubles, and four home runs.
Morgan Spicer is batting .354 with 30 runs scored, 24 RBI's, eight doubles, and four triples.
The Laker pitching staff has tossed a 1.91 team ERA this season.
Genesis Eggart leads the staff with a 1.63 ERA in 21 appearances making 17 starts. Eggart is 12-7 on the season tossing 15 complete games with four shutouts and 107 strikeouts.
Ashley Platek has made 18 appearances making 17 starts in the circle this season. Platek has posted a 1.76 ERA with 11 complete games tossed and 50 strikeouts.
Ohio Dominican enters the NCAA Tournament with a 34-13 record. The Lakers and Panthers played each other twice in the regular season with both teams winning one game. GVSU won the first matchup 3-1, and then fell in the second matchup 4-2 back in February.
Ohio Dominican is hitting .291 as a team and have outscored their opponents 206-119. The Panthers bring a lot of speed on the base paths having stolen 123 bases in 138 attempts. Six Panthers have stolen double digit bases on the season.
Alli Madden leads ODU with a .388 average and 22 stolen bases. Kaleigh Golden is hitting .363 on the season with 53 hits, 37 runs scored, and 15 stolen bases. Alexis Stevens has batted .357 with a team leading 55 hits, 43 RBI's, and 19 doubles. Stevens has also scored 28 runs and swiped 17 bases.
The Panther pitching staff has tossed a 2.24 team ERA. Grace Hammer leads the ODU staff with a 1.12 ERA in 31 appearances making 10 starts. Hammer has posted an 11-4 record with a team leading 138 strikeouts in 118.2 innings pitched. Addison Smodilla has made 21 appearances with 20 starts in the circle. Smodilla has posted a 13-4 record with seven complete games and 60 strikeouts in 110 innings pitched.
