Lakers to Play NMU in Sunday's GLIAC Championship

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's lacrosse team moved on to Sunday's GLIAC Tournament Championship game where they will take on Northern Michigan. The Lakers are looking for their fourth consecutive GLIAC title and the eight overall.

The Lakers advanced to the championship game with a 16-4 victory over Davenport in the semifinals. The Lakers got out to a hot start, leading 8-1 at halftime and cruised to the win. Maddy Champagne scored six times, and Sydney Stone added four goals to lead the way for the Lakers. The defense forced 12 Panther turnovers and Kaylyn Cater made two saves in net to get the win.
 
In the two games earlier this year against NMU, GVSU won both, earning a 17-6 win in Houghton, then taking the rematch at home by the score of 13-2. At Northern, Champagne scored five times, with Hailey Crittenden adding four. Cater made six saves and GVSU picked up 19 groundballs. When they met up in Allendale, the Lakers shut down the Wildcats, allowing just 11 shots and NMU had 18 turnovers. Stone had four goals, while Champagne tallied a hat trick, as Cater made seven saves in the cage.
 
NMU got to Sunday with a 15-6 win over Concordia-St. Paul. Josie Lakosy and Minnie Bittell each scored five times to pace the offense. Goalkeeper Lauren Esposito made 11 saves to anchor the Wildcat defense. NMU improved to 14-4 overall and they have won five of their previous six games.
