In the last two seasons, GVSU and Regis have met in the Midwest Regional semifinals, with the Lakers taking both matchups. In 2022, GVSU scored the game-winning goal with 43 seconds left to claim a 12-11 victory. They followed that up last year, defeating top-seeded Regis 15-11 in the semis. Hailey Crittenden scored four times, while Maddy Champagne and Sydney Stone each tallied hat tricks. Sarah Krause made 10 saves in the cage to pick up the win.

Coming into the NCAA Tournament, the Lakers have won 13 straight games, including capturing the GLIAC regular season and tournament titles. In the championship game, GVSU defeated Northern Michigan 13-3, winning their fourth straight title. Champagne and Stone each had four goals, with Ashleigh Rothe adding two. Kaylyn Cater totaled seven saves, and the Laker defense allowed just 14 shots all game.

Regis enters the tournament having won 14 straight games, going perfect in RMAC play to win the regular season and tournament titles. They are 18-1 on the year, with the lone loss coming at the hands of Maryville early in the season. The Rangers are led by RMAC Midfielder of the Year Bailey Treux and Goalkeeper of the Year Elizabeth Myotte. They have three players with over 60 points this season, with Maggie Schipfer totaling 76, Shea Murphy with 66, and Treux scoring 64. In net, Myotte is 16-1 with a .507 save percentage and 110 saves.

The matchup will feature the second and third best draw control units in the country, as Regis is winning 66% of their draws, while the Lakers win 65.5% of theirs. The two teams are also some of the top scoring defenses in the country, as GVSU leads the nation, allowing just 4.50 goals per game, and Regis is fourth at 7.00 goals per contest.
