No. 9 Lakers Set to Host DU and SVSU in Home Opener

ALLENDALE – The No. 9 Grand Valley State softball are back at the GVSU Softball Field for the first time this season when they host GLIAC opponents Davenport and Saginaw Valley State. The Lakers will open their homestand on Saturday (Apr. 6) against Davenport in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM before hosting Saginaw Valley State on Sunday (Apr. 7) in a doubleheader at 1:00 PM.

GVSU is 20-7 on the season and 3-1 in GLIAC play. The Lakers split on the road last weekend against Lewis and Ferris State. GVSU won game one against Lewis 8-5 in extra innings before falling 2-1 in extra innings. Against Ferris State, the Lakers fell in game one 2-1 before winning game two 2-1 in extra innings. 
 
The Lakers have outscored their opponents 147-51 this season. GVSU is hitting .302 as a team which is tied for second in the GLIAC. The Lakers lead the GLIAC with a 1.55 team ERA and have allowed the least amount of runs and hits in the GLIAC.
 
Hannah Hollister leads the Lakers offensively with a .405 batting average which is tied for fourth in the GLIAC. Hollister also leads the team with 34 hits and 29 runs scored. She also leads the GLIAC with 25 stolen bases in 25 attempts. Kelsey Komorous is hitting .373 on the season with a team leading nine doubles and three home runs. Komorous ranks second in the GLIAC with 30 runs batted in. Megan Koenigshof has notched a .304 average 24 hits and 17 runs scored. 
 
The Laker pitching staff has notched a 1.55 ERA which ranks first in the GLIAC. Kylie Swierkos is first in the GLIAC with a 0.69 ERA, posting a 4-2 record in the circle. Swierkos has struck out 25 batters and has allowed just five walks in 40.2 innings pitched. Genesis Eggart is second in the GLIAC with a 1.21 ERA. Eggart leads the team with an 8-1 record in the circle with 55 strikeouts in 58 innings pitched. Nevaeh Ingram is third in the GLIAC with a 1.43 ERA. Ingram has posted a 4-0 record in the circle with 20 strikeouts in 29.1 innings pitched.
 
Davenport enters Saturday's doubleheader with a 10-14 overall record, 2-0 GLIAC mark. The Panthers kicked off their GLIAC schedule last weekend in a doubleheader sweep over Ferris State. Davenport has outscored their opponents 109-89 and are hitting .303 as a team which leads the GLIAC. 
 
Becca Daoust leads the Panthers and is tied for fourth in the GLIAC with a .405 batting average. Daoust has notched 32 hits, 18 runs scored, and nine stolen bases. Hayley Kreiger is hitting .378 on the season with a team leading four home runs and 23 runs batted in. Riley Hasseld has notched a .356 average with 26 hits and 13 runs scored. 
 
Kelsey Byers leads the Davenport pitching staff with a 2.25 ERA. Byers has posted a 2-3 record in the circle, striking out 21 batters in 28 innings pitched. Hailey Whisman is 5-5 on the season with seven complete games. Cecelia Bell leads the team with 37 strikeouts and has posted a 3-6 record with four complete games.
 
Saginaw Valley State is 16-11 heading into the weekend and 3-1 in the GLIAC. The Cardinals split against Ferris State to open their GLIAC schedule before sweeping Parkside last weekend. Saginaw Valley is hitting .302 as a team which ranks tied for second in the GLIAC and are outscoring their opponents 155-120. SVSU leads the GLIAC with 155 runs scored, 137 RBI, 40 doubles, and 18 home runs. 
 
Ella Reifschneider is second in the GLIAC with a .432 battign average and leads the Cardinals with 32 hits, 25 runs scored, and 20 walks. Maddie Campagna is hitting .403 which is sixth in the GLIAC. Campagna has notched 25 hits, 13 runs scored, and 16 RBI's this season. Sara Moos leads the Cardinals with 20 RBI's and nine doubles. Moos has added 24 hits, 14 runs scored and eight stolen bases.
 
Alyssa Muench has made nine starts posting a 4-5 record in the circle with a 3.77 ERA. Muench has tossed four complete games striking out 61 batters in 52 innings pitched. Aalana Kimble is 4-2 on the season with three complete games. Kimble has struck out 21 batters in 40 innings pitched.
