In Friday's contest, it was a low-scoring first half, as GVSU only led 4-0 at the break. The Lakers erupted for nine second half goals to pull away and secure their eleventh GLIAC regular season championship.
Hailey Crittenden,
Maddy Champagne, and
Sydney Stone all scored hat tricks to lead the way for the Lakers. The defense caused 20 turnovers and grabbed 31 groundballs in front of
Kaylyn Cater, who made three saves in net. GVSU continues to hold the nation's best scoring defense, allowing just 5.67 goals against per game.
For the Panthers, goalkeeper Maisy Latus posted a strong game in the cage, making 13 saves and picking up two groundballs. Maddy Haynes, Theadora Krueger, and Alyssa Bird scored for DU, but their offense could never get anything going against the Laker defense. With a win, the Panthers would be the three seed in this coming weekend's GLIAC Tournament, but a loss would put them into tiebreaker scenarios with Concordia-St. Paul to determine the third and fourth seeds.
