ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's lacrosse team swept the GLIAC weekly awards for the fifth time this year.
Maddy Champagne was the Offensive Player of the Week, while
Kaylyn Cater was the Defensive Player of the Week.
For the second time this season, GVSU senior attacker
Maddy Champagne has been named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. Over two Laker wins, Champagne recorded nine points on five goals and four assists. She scored twice and dished out two assists in the 18-4 win over Concordia-St. Paul. That was followed up with three more goals and two assist in Sunday's Senior Day win over Northern Michigan. She added eight groundballs and eight draw controls, including the 100
th groundball of her career on Sunday. Champagne leads GVSU with 48 points this season, scoring 39 goals and tallying nine assists.
Kaylyn Cater has earned her first career GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week award. Cater picked up two wins over the weekend, notching 15 saves and allowing just six goals. On Friday, Cater tallied a season-high eight saves. Then on Sunday, she recorded seven more saves and a groundball, letting NMU score just twice. This year, Cater has totaled 62 saves and she is first in the nation with a 4.69 goals against per game, picking up 11 wins. With her in net, the Lakers have yet to allow double-digit goals this season.
