Lakers in First after Day One at GLIAC Championships

AUGUSTA, MICH. – The GVSU men's golf team began postseason play today with the opening round of the GLIAC Championships. After 18 holes, the Lakers sit in first place, eight strokes up on second place.

GVSU shot a round of 282 (-2) to finish the day in the lead. In second is Ferris State at +6, followed by Parkside in third at +13. Wayne State is fourth at +16, with SVSU rounding out the top five with a round of 301 (+17).
 
All five Laker golfers are in the top 10, with Nick Krueger leading the way in first. Krueger shot a round of 69 (-2) with three birdies to hold a one stroke lead. In second is Manuel Cue Vargas, who carded a round of 70 (-1) with three birdies. Drew Coble is tied for third, making four birdies in his round of 71 (E). After a round of 72 (+1), Charlie Cooley is tied for fifth, as he made three birdies today. Bryce Wheeler made two birdies in his round of 73 (+2) to sit in a tie for ninth.
 
The Lakers play the second round of stroke play tomorrow morning. If they are one of the top four teams after the round, they will advance to the afternoon's matchplay semifinals.
