Women's Lacrosse To Open Home Schedule Tomorrow

ALLENDALE, MICH. – After five straight road games to start the season, the GVSU women's lacrosse team is finally back at home. The Lakers play Ashland Sunday afternoon in their home opener.

The Lakers have begun the season 4-1, defeating Mercyhurst, Frostburg State, Colorado Mesa, and Missouri Western State. They fell this past Wednesday to 12th ranked Maryville by the score of 7-6. Over the first five games, they have let to allow more than nine goals, and have outscored the opposition 56-31. Leading the way is Sydney Stone with 13 goals, Maddy Champagne with 12, and Hailey Crittenden scoring 11. They continue to have one of the best draw control units in the country, winning 76 draws this year, compared to just 29 for the opponents. In the cage, Kaylyn Cater has been the main netminder, recording 23 saves and a .500 save percentage.
 
Ashland is 3-3 on the year, beating Notre Dame College, Davenport, and Charleston, but falling to Maryville, Lock Haven, and Alabama Huntsville. They have been outscored 92-62 this season, with their goalies on posting a .252 save percentage. Offensively, Ashley Fisher has paced the Eagles with 29 points (19 goals, 10 assists), with Cassady Becker and Ashley Drexler also have double-digit goals. The Eagles have lost the draw control battle 91-80 thus far and have lost 105 turnovers.
