HOMER, GA – The GVSU men's golf team squared off in a match play event today against North Georgia. The fourth-ranked Lakers and the top-ranked Nighthawks paired up six golfers for one-on-one matchups. The teams played two rounds, with GVSU winning the first 3-2-1 and UNG took the second 3-2-1. That took the match to a tiebreaker scenario, which was the total scores of the day. That totaled up to a Laker victory, as they scored an 862, two strokes better than the Nighthawks.

Winning their matchups in the first round for the Lakers were
Drew Coble,
Manuel Cue Vargas, and
Bryce Wheeler. Coble won his matchup by four strokes, beating North Georgia's top golfer 71-75. Cue Vargas shot an event-low 68 to win his matchup 68-73. Wheeler won his by one stroke, 72-73.
Andrew Gwilliams tied in the individual matchup, as both players shot rounds of 78. Both
Nick Krueger and
Charlie Cooley played well despite falling in their matchups. Krueger shot a 72 to lose by one stroke, while Cooley lost 70-73 in his.
In the second round, Coble and Cooley won their matchups. Cooley won by four strokes, carding a 72. Coble also shot a 72, winning his matchup by one stroke. Krueger shot a 69 to tie with his opponent. Wheeler shot a 69, but fell by three strokes. Gwilliams carded a 71, falling by three strokes, and Cue Vargas also lost by three strokes, shooting a 75.
