Lakers Begin GLIAC Play at Purdue Northwest Sunday

HAMMOND, Ind. – The No. 7 Grand Valley State softball team returns to the diamond this weekend for the start of GLIAC play on the road at Purdue Northwest. The Lakers will travel to Hammond, Indiana for a doubleheader on Sunday (Mar. 24) at 2:00 PM ET.

GVSU is 16-5 on the season and last played at the Spring Games in Florida where they went 10-2 on the week. The Lakers are hitting .318 as a team and holding their opponents to a .200 average. GVSU has outscored their oppontents 120-36 and lead 190-70 in hits. 
 
Kelsey Komorous was named the GLIAC Player of the Week for the first time this season during that week after launching two home runs and driving home 17 RBI. Ashley Platek tossed a no-hitter during the week in a mercy rule win against California (Pa.). Platek also struck out 10 batters in a win against Edinboro. 
 
Komorous leads the GLIAC with a .500 batting average and is second with 27 RBI and three home runs. She has recorded 30 hits, 13 runs scored, and nine doubles Hannah Hollister is second on the team and fifth in the GLIAC with a .413 batting average. Hollister has notched 26 hits, 26 runs scored, and drove in nine runs so far this season. She leads the GLIAC with 17 stolen bases on a perfect 17 attempts. 
 
Genesis Eggart leads the Laker pitching staff with a 6-1 record and 0.83 ERA which ranks second in the GLIAC. Eggart has struck out 45 batters while only giving up five earned runs in 42 innings pitched. Nevaeh Ingram leads the GLIAC with a 0.63 ERA and has posted a 3-0 record in the circle. Kylie Swierkos has posted a 3-1 record and is third in the GLIAC with a 1.04 ERA. 
 
Purdue Northwest 15-11 on the season and will open their GLIAC schedule at home against Davenport on Saturday (Mar. 23). The Pride are hitting .289 as a team and have outscored their opponents 120-89. 
 
Kylie Dugan leads the Pride with a .488 batting average that ranks second in the GLIAC. Dugan is third with 10 stolen bases and has notched 40 hits and 16 runs scored. Amanda DeBoer ia batting .333 on the season with 26 hits, and 14 runs scored. Selena Michko leads the Pride with 16 RBI and is batting .319 on the season.
 
The Pride pitching staff is led by Maddison Roop who leads the GLIAC with eight wins in the circle posting a 1.25 ERA. Roop has struck out 64 batters while allowing 14 earned runs in 78.2 innings pitched. Gabby Paliska has added six wins and truck out 48 batters.
