Softball Travels to Florida for The Spring Games

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The No. 5 Grand Valley State softball team is set to travel to Florida for their spring break trip at The Spring Games beginning Sunday (March 3) morning. The Lakers will play 12 games in seven days down in the sunshine state.
 
The Lakers are 6-3 on the season and are coming off a five-game weekend at the Lewis Dome Tournament where they posted a 4-1 record. GVSU have outscored their opponents 51-17 through the first nine games. The Lakers are hitting .306 as a team and are holding their opponents to a .216 batting average. GVSU has swiped 17 bases in 18 attempts to start the year and have hit 19 extra base hits. 
 
Genesis Eggart was named the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week to start the season. Eggart went 2-0 in the circle last weekend striking out 21 batters without allowing a single run. Eggart struck out a career high 11, while tossing a complete game shutout against Minnesota Duluth. She is now 4-0 to start the year with a 0.58 ERA and has struck out 32 batters. 
 
Offensively, GVSU is led by Hannah Hollister who has batted .464 to start the season with 13 hits, 10 runs scored, and four runs batted in. Hollister also leads the team with nine stolen bases in nine attempts.  Kelsey Komorous has notched a .417 batting average including a team leading 10 RBI's. Komorous drove in nine runs last weekend at the Lewis Dome Tournament. Megan Koenigshof has hit .333 through the first nine games including a double, triple, and seven runs scored.
