ALLENDALE, MICH. – For the second time this season, the GVSU women's lacrosse team swept the weekly GLIAC awards. Also for the second time this year, it was
Sydney Stone and
Aislynn Alkire being the ones to receive the honors. Stone took home the offensive honor and Alkire was the defensive recipient.
Sydney Stone has earned her second GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honor following the Lakers' 17-4 win over Rockhurst. In that game, Stone scored four goals and dished out one assist, to lead GVSU with five points. Her first goal of the day represented her 100
th career goal as a Laker. She also recorded two groundballs and grabbed two draw controls. This season, Stone leads GVSU with 21 goals and 23 points, while adding 29 draw controls, 16 groundballs, and 11 caused turnovers.
Also earning her second GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week award was senior defender
Aislynn Alkire. Alkire played a major role in a Laker defense that allowed Rockhurst to only attempt nine shots and have 16 turnovers. Alkire had three groundballs and forced two turnovers in the win over the Hawks. She leads the team with 18 groundballs and has also caused 10 turnovers.
