GVSU Men And Women Lead GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships

Grand Valley State completed day one at the 2024 GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships that are being held at the Holland Aquatic Center. The #4 Laker men, who are going for their 10th consecutive GLIAC crown, lead the way with 248 points, followed by Northern Michigan (200), St. Cloud State (181.5) and Wayne State (178). The #6 GVSU women are first with 230 points, while Wayne State is second (211), and Northern Michigan third (168.5). 
 
Women – 
 
200 Medley Relay – GVSU finished second as Vittoria Proietti, Natalia Hermanowska, Alysa Wager and Tina Winter touched the wall in 1:43.11. 

1000 Free – Katie O'Connell finished fifth with a time of 10:12.27 (DIIB), while Sarah Puscas touched in 10:21.91 (DIIB). Gaia Tomaselli hit the wall 12th (10:24.55).

200 IM – Sara Alvarez claimed the GLIAC title when she hit the wall first in 2:02.80 (DIIB), while Vittoria Proietti finished fifth (2:05.55). Olivia Geiger recorded a seventh-place finish with a time of 2:08.52. GVSU added three strong finishes in the consolation finals at Staci Nation touched 11th (2:06.65), Kelly Shortall 12th (2:08.16) and Alice Persson 13th (2:08.43). 

50 Free – Sophomore Lucy Hedley claimed her fourth individual GLIAC title in her career when she hit the wall first in a GVSU record-time of 23.22 (DIIB).  Tina Winter touched fourth in a time of 23.79 (DIIB), Kiersten Harmon fifth (23.82) and Annabelle Nixon sixth (24.00). Alysa Wager added a ninth-place finish (23.90). 

200 Free Relay – The Lakers claimed the GLIAC title in the 200 free relay as Kiersten Harmon, Alysa Wager, Annabelle Nixon and Tina Winter hit the wall in 1:33.71 (DIIB).
 
Men – 
200 Medley Relay – The Laker relay team of Aaron Dies, Andrew Goh, Brennan Neitzel and Evan Scotto DiVetta finished third and hit the NCAA B cut with a time of 1:27.44. 

1000 Free – Senior Eric Hieber collected his fourth GLIAC title in the 1000 free when he touched the wall first in 9:04.29 (DIIB). Matthew Lane hit the NCAA B cut with his third-place finish (9:4.69) and Jon Kantzenbach finished fifth and hit the NCAA B cut (9:18.27).  Austin Millard finished 10th and hit the B cut (9:24.81), while Evan Fox was 13th (9:37.36). 
 
200 IM – Roger Miret Sala finished third and hit the NCAA B cut with a time of 1:47.33, while Matt Bosch also hit the B cut and finished sixth in a time of 1:48.09 and Will Herwig hit the B cut with his seventh-place finish (1:50.00). Thomas Zoldowski finished 10th in a B cut time of 1:49.98. 

50 Free – Evan Scotto DiVetta hit the NCAA B cut and finished third (19.99), while Brennan Neitzel also hit the B cut and finished sixth (20.32). Carsyn Christoffel finished ninth in a time of 20.42 (DIIB), and Aaron Dies was 13th (20.65). 
 
1-Meter Diving – Matthew Blommel finished fourth with a score of 421.05, Jackson Rodriguez was ninth (399.30) and Cory Shade 16th (316.60).

200 Free Relay – The Lakers' relay team of Evan Scotto DiVetta, Roger Miret Sala, Brennan Neitzel and Matt Bosch claimed the GLIAC title and hit the NCAA B cut in a GVSU varsity record time of 1:19.04.
