ALLENDALE, MICH. – The reigning GLIAC Attacker of the Year
Maddy Champagne picked up right where she left off last year, earning the league's Offensive Player of the Week honor following the Lakers opening weekend. Over the two Laker wins, Champagne scored nine goals, dished out one assist, and grabbed nine draw controls.
In the season-opening win over Mercyhurst, Champagne tallied five goals and one assist, as GVSU got the year going with a 17-8 win. She added six draw controls in the win as well. On Sunday, she followed that up with four more goals, recording a hat trick within the first six minutes of the game, as she helped lead the Lakers to a 12-4 win. On top of that, she had three draw controls, three groundballs, and two caused turnovers.
This is the eighth time in her career that Champagne has earned the weekly GLIAC award. She won it three times as a freshman, then four more times last season.
