GVSU Women Claim Second Consecutive GLIAC S&D Title With 999 Points

Lakers win eight GLIAC Titles

Grand Valley State swept the 2024 GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships for the second consecutive year and the Laker men secured their 10th consecutive GLIAC Championship at the Holland Aquatic Center. The GVSU men finished with 915 points, well ahead of Northern Michigan (617.5) and Wayne State (594.5). The GVSU women tallied 999 points, followed by Wayne State (743) and Northern Michigan (726). Freshman Matthew Blommel was named the GLIAC Men's Diver of the Year and the GVSU coaching staff of head coach Andy Boyce, assistant coach Eric Murray and diving coach Steve Burciaga were named the GLIAC Men's and Women's Coaching Staff of the Year. The GVSU men's program has now won 13 GLIAC titles, while the women have six league titles. Grand Valley State will next be in action at the NCAA Championships March 13-16 in Geneva, Ohio.
 
Women
1650 Free – Senior Sarah Puscas finished sixth in a time of 17:2114, followed by Gaia Tomaselli in eighth (17:30.11).

100 Free – Sophomore Lucy Hedley set a GLIAC meet record, the GVSU varsity record and hit the NCAA standard with a time of 50.02. Tina Winter finished fourth and hit the NCAA B cut with a time of 51.77, while Annabelle Nixon finished eighth (52.20).

200 Back – Freshman Vittoria Proietti hit the NCAA B cut and finished fifth with a time of 2:00.95, followed by fellow freshman Alice Persson in sixth who touched in 2:01.45 (NCAA B). Staci Nation touched ninth (2:03.35) and Katie O'Connell 10th (2:03.86). 

200 Breast – Sophomore Sara Alvarez claimed the GLIAC Championship and hit the NCAA B cut with a time of 2:18.23. Liv Geiger touched sixth (2:20.33), Alysa Wager eighth (2:22.22) and Kelly Shortall 15th (2:27.07).

1-Meter Diving – GVSU placed five among the top seven, highlighted by Maddie Kooistra who claimed the GLIAC title with a score of 446.55. Sadie Huizenga finished third (406.05), Jessica McEachern fifth (392.50), Samantha Plough sixth (385.45), Carissa Wooley seventh (384.25) and Macy Polasek ninth (385.05).
 
400 Free Relay – The Lakers' relay team of Tina Winter, Kiersten Harmon, Annabelle Nixon and Lucy Hedley finished second in a time 3:25.34.
