Grand Valley State Director of Athletics, Keri Becker, announced Dominique Hamman as the third women's lacrosse head coach in program history. She was most recently the head coach at Daemen University in Amherst, New York. She takes over for MacKenzie Lawler, who went to Florida State as an assistant coach.
Â
"Dominque Hamman demonstrated superior leadership and coaching qualities that made her an exceptional choice to be our next head women's lacrosse coach," stated Becker. "She has an excellent grasp on what is required to be the CEO of a program, a high-quality coach and recruiter, as well as committed to developing these women in all facets of life."
Â
Hamman was hired in 2022 as the first head coach in Daemen program history and led the Wildcats to seven wins in their inaugural season. Daemen had five players earn ECC All-Conference honors. Additionally, she had coached the conference's top goalkeeper in save percentage this past season. In her first season, she coached the league's second ranked player in both total points and assists per game, as well as the ECC's leader in draw controls.Â
Â
Prior to her time in Amherst, Hamman was the graduate assistant coach at Grand Valley State for two years. During her time, the Lakers went 15-3, including a 12-2 mark during the 2021 season that included the Lakers' first GLIAC tournament championship since 2016. Working primarily with the team's goalkeepers, Hamman oversaw a group that ranked first in the GLIAC and 17th nationally in save percentage. While in Allendale, Hamman coached two All-Americans, six All-Region selections, 12 All-GLIAC players, including the GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year in 2021.Â
Â
As a player, Hamman played 64 games and was a four-year letterwinner at Central Michigan University, playing as a member of the first recruiting class for the Chippewas. She was twice named Second-Team All-Conference, posting 21 career wins, to go along with 423 saves and a .450 save percentage. She still holds the program record for saves and wins, and she ranks third in save percentage, and fifth in groundballs with 115.
Â
Hamman will join a Laker coaching staff of assistant coach
Hilary (Duda) McFadden and graduate assistant coaches
Aislynn Alkire and
Jackie Wolford.Â
Â
"I would like to thank
Hilary (Duda) McFadden for stepping into the interim role and doing an amazing job in all aspects of the program," Becker said. "Hilary and graduate assistants
Aislynn Alkire and
Jackie Wolford will remain on staff for the Lakers."
