Cross Country Ends Regular Season at Lewis Crossover

ROMEOVILLE, ILL. – Grand Valley's cross country squads ended the regular season on a good note at the Lewis Crossover, finishing all three races in the top 10.

Per Head Coach Jerry Baltes, coaches decided to hold out four women and nine men from their lineup today to focus on getting ready for postseason action. Despite this, the Lakers excelled throughout the day.

The men's squad started the day with a sixth place overall finish (286 pts.) in the 8,000m.

Colin Kachlic led the team with a 24:37.0 time to finish 38th. Jayden Page (42) finished close behind Kachlic, recording a personal-best 8k time of 24:41.5. Six other Lakers also added personal-bests to their records.

Grand Valley's women's squad placed third in the Women's 6,000m with 157 points.

Senior Maggie O'Malley led the way, crossing the finish line 20th with a personal-best 21:41.0, nearly a 30-second improvement from her last PR. The seven other Laker ladies all set new season-best or personal-best 6k times.

The Lakers rounded out the day with six athletes combining for a fourth place finish (109 pts.) in the Men's 8,000m Open.

In his collegiate debut, Bahózhóni "Baja" Church finished second overall at 25:14.2. Tinsae Nelson followed, crossing the finish line 12th at a personal-best 25:50.8. Five of the six Lakers competing ran personal-best times.

"Today was a great opportunity for our crews to mix it up with some of the top teams across the country," said Baltes. "We are in a good spot as we turn our sights on the championship season. We will need to continue to make steady progress each and every week throughout the championship season to obtain our goals."

Grand Valley's championship season begins on Saturday, October 26 in Big Rapids, Mich. at the GLIAC Cross Country Championships hosted by Ferris State.
