ALLENDALE, MICH. – After day one of the Folds of Honor Challenge at the Meadows Golf Course, the GVSU men's golf team holds a five-stroke lead with only tomorrow's 18 holes to play.
Drew Coble is in the lead after the first 18 holes, carding a five under, up by three strokes.
Results
The Lakers are in the lead, shooting one over, 569, to hold the five-stroke lead over Wayne State, who held the lead after 18 holes, but fell to second after a rough second round. Aurora is in third after day one, shooting a 581 (+13), followed by Indian Hills Community College in fourth at 582 (+14), and Illinois Wesleyan in fifth at +17 (585).
Coble shot rounds of 70 and 67 to end the day at five under, as he sank five birdies in round one and then six more in the second round.
Manuel Cue Vargas and
Charlie Cooley are both tied for sixth at one over. Vargas shot rounds of 72 and 71, making a combined six birdies. Cooley also carded rounds of 72 and 71, making four birdies.
Nick Krueger is tied for 23
rd, making six birdies on the day, as he sits at five over.
Alex Jordan made his season debut, and is sitting in a tie for 34
th, making four birdies throughout his rounds of 73 and 75.
Murphy Kehoe and
Andrew Gwilliams were both competing as individuals, with Kehoe being tied for 42
nd, carding rounds of 76 and 75 with, while Gwilliams is tied for 72
nd, as he had rounds of 74 and 85, sinking one birdie.
GVSU will play the final round tomorrow, as they will try to win this event for the second consecutive season.
