ALLENDALE – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference (GLIAC) announced the 2023 baseball All-Conference teams yesterday (May 11) during the GLIAC Tournament in Lansing. The Lakers had three named to first team, five to the second team, and two honorable mention honorees.
Starting pitcher
Nick Rutkowski, infielder
Nathan Logan, and centerfielder
Spencer Nelson earned first team honors. Rutkowski led the GLIAC during the regular season with a 1.80 ERA and posted an 8-2 record on the mound. He made 12 starts tossing 82 innings with 55 strikeouts. Rutkowski leads the team with five complete games including a complete game shutout against Wilmington. Logan earned his second consecutive first team honors. He has appeared and started in 40 games this season posting a .338 batting average with nine doubles, three triples, four home runs, and a team leading 35 runs batted in. He has notched six three-hit games this season and has scored 30 runs. Nelson has appeared in 37 games making 35 starts. He has notched a career high .345 batting average. Nelson has notched six home runs, nine doubles, and three triples. He tied the GVSU single game record with three home runs in a game against Wayne State.
Outfielder

Conner McCormack, infielder
Connor Schuman, catcher
Brendan Guciardo, and relief pitcher
Sam Leck were named to the All-GLIAC second team. Nott hit .317 this season with eight doubles and eight triples while starting in all 48 games so far this season. He has posted career highs with four home runs, 30 runs batted in, and 52 runs scored. McCormack has appeared in 33 games making 27 starts this season. He has posted career highs with a .370 batting average, eight home runs, five doubles, 23 runs batted in, and 24 runs scored. McCormack notched two home runs in a GLIAC win at Parkside. Schuman has appeared in 43 games making 42 starts. He has posted career highs this season with a .309 average, 50 hits, a team leading 11 doubles, and 26 runs batted in.
Guciardo has made 38 appearances including 32 starts. He has posted a .319 batting average including three home runs, a career high 22 runs batted in, seven doubles, and 22 runs scored. Leck has made 16 appearances all in relief. He led the GLIAC with six saves in the regular season and has posted a 2-2 record. Leck earned the win in yesterday's 8-7 extra inning win in the opening round of the GLIAC Tournament after tossing four innings allowing two runs with two strikeouts.
Infielder
Jonas Gulbrandsen and starting pitcher
Colby Phipps were named to All-GLIAC Honorable Mention. Gulbrandsen leads the team this season with a .362 batting average making 41 appearances with 39 starts. He has notched nine doubles, 31 runs batted in, and 25 runs scored. Phipps has appeared in 11 games making 10 starts earning a 7-3 record with a 3.82 ERA. He has struck out 37 batters this season, while only walking 12 and has tossed two complete games.
