GVSU SS Evan Morrison Drafted By The Texas Rangers In The 10th Round

Grand Valley State SS Evan Morrison was drafted by the Texas Rangers Sunday in the 10th round of the 2026 Major League Baseball draft. Morrison is the first Laker to be drafted since LHP Josh Smith in 2019 and he is now the second highest pick in GVSU Baseball history behind LHP Matt Thornton who was drafted in the first round by the Seattle Mariners in 1998. 

Morrison was a consensus All-America selection in 2026 for Grand Valley State, hitting .410 with 104 hits, 88 runs, 15 doubles, six triples, six home runs and 51 RBI. Tallied 27 stolen bases and walked 28 times with just seven strikeouts. Morrison was an ABCA First-Team All-American, D2CCA Second-Team All-American, D2 Baseball third team All-American and an NCBWA Honorable Mention All-American. Honored as NCBWA, ABCA and D2CCA First-Team All-Midwest Region, while being named the 2026 GLIAC Player of the Year. Morrison was a First-Team All-GLIAC honoree, a two-time GLIAC Player of the Week and a member of the 2026 GLIAC All-Tournament team.

Morrison hit.410 and led the league and ranked fifth nationally in hits (104), runs scored with a GLIAC and GVSU single-season record of 88 and triples with six...Morrison led the GLIAC and ranked second nationally in the toughest to strike out category (7K)...Opened the year with a 31-game hitting streak and reached base in 54-of-58 games..Scored a run in 42 games and scored two or more runs 27 times...Tallied 32 multi-hit games, including 16 games with three hits or more...Reached base via a hit, walk or hit by pitch 137 times and accounted for 139 runs (runs-RBI)...Reached base safely in 109-of-115 games played in his two years with the Lakers...2025 First-Team All-GLIAC.
