DENVER, COLO. – The GVSU women's lacrosse team opens Midwest Regional play tomorrow in the mountains of Denver, as they take on Regis at 11 am MT/1 pm EST. This is the third time the Lakers have made the NCAA Tournament, and the second straight season.

This is the second time this season that these two teams have matched up, with Regis coming out victorious in the first game in early March. The Rangers won the game 14-10, as the Lakers got two goals apiece from
Maddy Champagne and
Sydney Stone. This will be the second straight season that these two teams will matchup in the Midwest Regional semifinals, with the Lakers coming out on top last season with a dramatic 12-11 win.
The Lakers will enter the game on an 11-game winning streak, which marks the fourth longest winning streak in program history, capping off the run with a win over Northern Michigan in the GLIAC Championship game. GVSU had seven players earn IWLCA All-Region honors, as Champagne,
Molly Bursinger, and
Maggie Hammer all were first team honorees, and Stone,
Aislynn Alkire,
Ashleigh Rothe, and
Kylie Waeghe were on the second team. Grand Valley enters the Tournament with a 14-4 record, their third best record in program history.
Regis is the number one seed in the Midwest Regional, coming in at 17-1, and winning the RMAC regular season and tournament titles. Regis is led by six IWLCA All-Region personnel, with three first teamers and three second teamers. Lucy Johnson is the team's leading scorer at 68 points, followed by Bailey Truex at 58 points. In the cage, Brigit Goetsch has started 17 of the 18 games, recording 81 saves on a .455 save percentage. The Rangers only loss this season came at Colorado Mesa, 14-13 in overtime.
