Lydia Goble and Hannah Beatus Sweep Conference Weekly Awards

ALLENDALE—The Grand Valley State softball team swept the GLIAC weekly awards, the conference office announced on Monday.
 
Lydia Goble was named GLIAC Player of the Week and Hannah Beatus was named the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week.
 
Goble helped lead the Lakers to a 5-0 week, going 8-for-16 in the batter's box. She racked up 10 RBI with a four-RBI performance against Davenport in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. Goble had three-RBI games in both of the Lakers' games against Wayne State.
 
The senior shortstop from Schoolcraft totaled five extra base hits this past week: two doubles, two triples and a home run. Goble drew one walk and stole one base for the Lakers. Her home run against Wayne State was the fourth of the season and she has accumulated 44 RBI this season.
 
Goble is hitting .476 this season, which leads the GLIAC by 51 points. She leads the GLIAC and is 14th in the country in batting average. Her 41 RBI this season ranks second in thee GLIAC and 89th in Division II.
 
Beatus claimed her sixth conference Pitcher of the Week award this season. The honor marks her third consecutive weekly honor.
 
The North Aurora, Illinois, native pitched three complete games and picked up three victories for GVSU. She tossed seven-inning shutouts against Saginaw Valley and Davenport. Beatus also beat Wayne State with a five-inning victory.
 
Beatus allowed only two runs last week, both coming against Wayne State on Sunday. She surrendered 15 hits overall last week, but struck out 26 batters over 19 innings.
 
The senior pitcher's 0.51 ERA on the season leads Division II and her 126 strikeouts leads the GLIAC. She owns an 18-1 record on the season.
 
The Lakers return to action at 2 p.m. on Friday against Purdue Northwest in Hammond, Indiana.
