ALLENDALE, MICH. – The regular season is coming to an end for GVSU women's lacrosse, as they close out the year tomorrow afternoon up at Northern Michigan. The two teams will play for the GLIAC title, as the Lakers are looking for their third straight regular season conference championship.

GVSU is one of the hottest teams in the country, coming into Sunday's season finale on an eight-game winning streak that has propelled them to an 11-4 record and a perfect 5-0 record in GLIAC play. The winning streak has moved the Lakers up to 15
th in the national IWLCA poll and they are one of the teams in contention for a Midwest Regional appearance. GVSU has outscored their opponents by seven or more goals in all eight games of the winning streak.
Maddy Champagne has been on a hot streak as well, winning GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week the past three weeks, as she leads the lead in points (59), goals (44), assists (15), and draw controls (87). The defense has played a big role in the winning too, only allowing double-digit goals twice during the eight games, and holding opponents to five goals or fewer four times.
Northern is second in the conference at 4-1 in league play and 10-5 overall. Since their loss to the Lakers, NMU has won four straight and they are 4-0 playing at home. Minnie Bittell is second in the conference with 43 goals, and her 54 points ranks third in the league. This game will be between the two best draw control units in the GLIAC, as GVSU has won 271 draw controls and the Wildcats have gathered 222 this season. Hannah Melander has been in the cage for the majority of the season for the Wildcats, garnering 123 saves and a .446 save percentage.
