INDIANAPOLIS—The Grand Valley State swimming and diving teams competed in the first day of full action at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships inside of the IU Natatorium.
 
The Laker men combined for 28 team points in the men's 1,000-yard freestyle. Eric Hieber touched fourth with a time of 9:00.47 and Jon Kantzenbach finished in sixth with a time of 9:05.61 to combine for nearly 30 GVSU team points.
 
Keegan Hawkins advanced to the consolation final in the 200-yard individual medley, placing third in the race and 11th overall with a time of 1:47.85. Roger Miret Sala touched 19th in the prelims with a time of 1:48.59.
 
The GVSU men's 200-yard medley relay team touched 17th with a time of 1:28.62.
 
On the women's side, Gracyn Segard took fourth in the finals of the 1-Meter Dive, scoring 444.00 points and grabbing 15 team points for the GVSU women.
 
Maddie Kooistra took ninth in the 1-Meter Dive prelim round and won the consolation final, scoring 446.40 in the consolation finals to score nine team points. Nicole Carlson and Jess McEachern finished 20th and 21st in the 1-Meter Dive prelims.
 
The women's 200-yard medley relay team took 13th with a time of 1:42.91.
 
Gaia Tomaselli took 20th in the women's 1,000-yard freestyle, touching with a time of 10:20.87.
 
In the 50-yard freestyle, Rebecca Farber took 17th in the prelims with a time of 23.39 seconds. Katie O'Connell touched 26th in the prelims of the women's 200-yard individual medley.
