GVSU enters conference play with a 4-4 record, splitting home games last weekend with a loss to Maryville before dominating Mercyhurst 17-2 on Sunday. The Lakers were ranked #16 in the latest IWLCA national poll and are the only ranked GLIAC school. The Lakers are led offensively by
Kate DeYoung's 20 goals, and
Sydney Stone and
Maggie Hammer with 19 each. As a team, they have gathered 112 draw controls, paced by the GLIAC's leader in
Molly Bursinger with 39.
Sarah Krause picked up the win in net on Sunday, saving five shots en route to her first career victory.
CSP is 4-5 on the season and 0-1 in conference play, falling to Northern Michigan last weekend 13-11. They have the top goal scorer in the league in Lauren Sheets, who has 30 goals, as well as a league leading 36 points. They also lead the GLIAC with 170 groundballs and 80 caused turnovers, paced by Claire Flahaven's 18 groundballs and 13 caused turnovers. In the cage, Candance McDole has made eight starts, saving 67 shots, good for a .453 save percentage.
