ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley women's lacrosse team is home for two game this weekend, taking on two tough opponents Friday and Sunday. On Friday, unbeaten Maryville is in town for a 5:00pm matchup, then #22 Mercyhurst visits for a noon game Sunday.

The Lakers are 3-3 this year after splitting with Findlay and UIndy last week. The Lakers beat Findlay 19-10 on the road, then opened their home schedule by battling with top-ranked Indianapolis, before falling 13-12. Maggie Hammer and
Molly Bursinger took home the awards. Hammer scored seven goals on 12 shots, putting 11 of them on goal, including five in the win over Findlay. Throughout the week, Bursinger tallied 17 draw controls, five groundballs, and four draw controls defensively. She also added six goals and one assist offensively. GVSU comes into the week at number 11 in the latest IWLCA rankings.
Maryville enters Friday's game at a perfect 8-0 after beating Ashland and Findlay earlier this week. The Saints were among the teams receiving votes in the latest IWLCA poll under first year head coach Melissa Gyllenborg. Maryville has scored 154 goals this season and have the fourth best scoring offense in the nation, scoring 18.67 goals a game. They are led by Sydney Tiermann, who has already scored 56 goals this season, and whose 6.83 goals per game lead the nation. In the cage, the Saints start Jo Miles, who has 55 saves and a .491 save percentage.
On Sunday, the number twenty-two team in the nation visits Allendale, as Mercyhurst comes to town. The Lakers are 2-2 to open the season, losing two straight to Le Moyne and Lock Haven. Mercyhurst is led by Maggie Newton (17 points) and Gabby McGinn (13 points). In the net, AJ Jameson has made 19 saves.
