INDIANAPOLIS—The Grand Valley State swimming and diving teams closed out competition with an individual national championship performance at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at the IU Natatorium.
 
Eric Hieber won the men's 1,650-freestyle championship, touching the wall in 15:03.48. Hieber was swimming even with Cedric Buessing but pulled away in the final 50 yards of the race to claim a national title. Hieber also took fourth in the 500-yard and 1,000-yard freestyle races and the title marks his third top-five finish of the week.
 
Matt Bosch finished fourth overall in the 100-yard freestyle. He touched the wall with a time of 43.65 seconds to secure a fourth-place finish. In the prelims, Bosch finished as the fourth-fastest qualifier with a time of 43.33 seconds.
 
Wrigley Fields took eighth in the men's 1-meter dive championship final with a score of 439.40. Isaiah Swilley competed in the consolation final of the men's 1-meter dive, taking 15th with a score of 388.70.
 
The men's 400-yard freestyle relay team took seventh with a time of 2:55.56.
 
In the men's 200-yard breaststroke, Keegan Hawkins took 20th in the prelims with a time of 2:00.79.
 
Jon Kantzenbach also competed in the 1,650-yard freestyle, taking 12th with a time of 15:26.14.
 
On the women's side, Delaney Wihebrink took 21st in the prelims of the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:19.95.
 
Lucy Hedley and Rebecca Farber swam in the 100-yard freestyle prelims. Hedley swam a time of 51.41 seconds for 29th place and Farber swam a time of 51.79 seconds to take 38th.
 
The GVSU women's 400-yard freestyle relay team took ninth with a time of 3:23.57.
 
The Laker men finished sixth in the team race, scoring 239 points. The Laker women's team finished 14th in the team race with 109 points.
